The Hunger Games Trivia Challenge and Book Talk at Bow Memorial School

The Teen Advisory Board will be hosting a book talk on the popular books, The Hunger Games and Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. The third book in the trilogy, The Mockingjay, is due out this summer! There will be a trivia challenge and a prize (gift certificate for Gibson's Book Store) for the winning "tribute".

Canned Food Drive
through Monday 8/9
Summer Reading Program participants are encouraged to donate canned goods this summer to receive prizes (grades K-5) or points (grades 6-12). Prizes and points are awarded every time a donation is brought in to the library. Our local food pantries are in need, so let's help them out! Our donations will be given to the Friendly Kitchen in Concord.
Summer Reading Kick-Off Celebration
Friday, June 25, 5 to 8 p.m.
This year our kick-off party is geared for the entire family! Bring a blanket and join us for an evening of food and entertainment both inside and outside the library. Picnic food will be served up by the Friends of the Baker Free Library. Students in grades 6 - 12 can register for the summer reading program, Feed Your Mind...Read! to earn points for prizes such as t-shirts, aprons, books, ice cream, and Gibson's Book Store gift certificates!
For middle school students ~ Wait staff relay races at 5:30 p.m.
For high school students ~ Karaoke/Open Mike & Coffee House (in the library basement teen space) at 6:30 p.m.
Hunger Games ~ Grades 6 to 12
Monday, June 28, 6 to 8 p.m.
Compete in BFLs version of The Hunger Games with your friends. Based on the much-loved book, The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, you will navigate an obstacle course, try your hand at knot tying, and practice your archery skills. If you are up to the challenge, register today!
Strawberry Stones ~ Rock Painting
Wednesday, July 7, 1 to 3 p.m. Ages 10+
Have a 'berry' good time creating a realistic-looking strawberry paperweight and take the instructions home with you to create more for a whole bowl of rock strawberries! Space is limited; registration is required.
Candy Making and Game Night
Tuesday, July 13, 6 to 8 p.m. ~ For Students in Grades 6 to 12
Sue Chandler from Chandler's Cake and Candy Supply will teach how to make chocolate treats including peanut butter cups and turtles. $5 materials fee payable by July 9th. Registration is required.
Cool Kitchen Crochet @ White Rock Senior Living
Tuesday, July 20, 9 to 11 a.m. ~ Ages 10+
Learn to crochet by making cotton washcloths or trivets. This is an inter-generational program held at White Rock Senior Living, 6 Bow Center Road. Materials fee of $3 due by Friday 7/16. Registration is required.
T-Shirt Design
Wednesday, July 21, 1 p.m. ~ Ages 10+
Go ahead, get food on your shirt! Design a mosaic t-shirt using carrots and paint! Space is limited. Registration is required.
Iron Chef I & II
Monday, 7/26 for Grades 9-12 and Tuesday 7/27, 6 to 8 p.m. for Grades 6-8
Compete for the BFL Iron Chef title using our "mystery" ingredient. Enjoy food and friends! Space is limited. Registration is required.
Canned Food Sculpture & Pot Luck Dinner
Monday August 9, 6 p.m.
Bring a favorite dish to share and help build a canned food sculpture from the canned goods donated by Summer Reading Program participants! The canned food will be donated to the Friendly Kitchen in Concord after this event. Registration is required.
Summer Reading Program Ice Cream Party
Friday, August 20, 4 p.m.
All participants of the Summer Reading Program (K-12) and their families are invited to celebrate the reading they have done this summer! Make your own ice cream sundae and be eligible for door prizes.
